The Mt. St. Helens Club comprises
a group of men, women and youths with a deep interest in the outdoors, nature study and conservation. The club was founded in 1930 and incorporated in 1936.

Objectives

To foster and stimulate interest in hiking, skiing, backpacking, camping and similar activities;

To create a high standard of citizenship by encouraging a spirit of good comradeship, building health, and promoting happiness among lovers of the outdoors;

To further the study and enhance the knowledge of plant and animal life of the mountains, forests and waters of the Pacific Northwest by exploration of these regions;

To preserve by personal caution and by furtherance of protective legislation, the natural beauties of our country;

To provide activities of a recreational and social nature for the benefit and enjoyment of the members.

 
Activities

The club schedules hikes and other outings throughout the year. They include half-day and all-day hikes, biking, weekend trips and an occasional backpack trip.


Meetings

The fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Catlin Grange, 207 Shawnee Street, North Kelso. During the months of June/July and August, potluck/picnics are held at 6:00 pm at Willow Grove Park, Longview, Washington.  Meetings include a potluck dinner, a business meeting and a program.
 
Membership

Any person of good character in sympathy with the objectives the Mt. St. Helens Club may become a member.

Active membership is open to persons 18 years of age and older. The initiation fee for a single person is $15.00. Annual dues are $25.00 per member. Junior member-ship age 12-17 is $5.00. At age 18 junior members may become active members without additional fees.



Membership Requirements

Applicants must make three qualifying hikes of at least three miles each hike within a 12-month period. An application form endorsement by two active members, with the initiation fee and dues for the current year shall be given to the membership chairperson.

Active members are expected to take an active part in the affairs of the Mt. St. Helens Club, attend meetings, outings, serve on committees, etc.
